I work with a small area at a time. I use the tips of my fingers (one or two) and work in a circular motion appying pressure. Your fingers will be sore. I do it in the early evening when it's cooler and the sun is not beating down on me. I also depends how blue your pipe got before you tried to clean it.
If you buy new pipes, coat the inside before you put them on. They sell stuff to avoid that. Don't have the name off the top of my head buy can locate it if you need me to. It's sold in mc mags and bike shops. I don't believe it does any good on used pipes.
I bought a new heat shield that covers the Supertrapp weld area. It's only an inch longer than the original heat shield and matches the one already on the bike. Just enough to cover the weld and a little blueing that had started.
